The community’s wishes

The sticky notes show the community’s suggestions gathered at public meetings and workshops. The proposals above are now included in the plan for the High Street. The plans for An Camas Mòr are founded on the Community Council’s wish for essential housing and vital public services.

‘I have been following the project for what is now a long time and with the passage of time it has become clearer and clearer that the vision behind An Camas Mòr is a very positive and forward thinking vision and one that would bring many pluses to the Aviemore area. It is a very positive vision that includes both natural heritage considerations and also the local people who live within that natural heritage. Themes of sustainability and collaboration are a very important part of all of our futures and An Camas Mòr gives the local people a stake in shaping a progressive and sustainable future for themselves and the environment’.

Planned over about 30 years or more

The plan is phased over about 30 years, with about 50 homes a year, integrated with vital services. It includes enough jobs and community facilities to support a healthy population and healthy environment in Badenoch and Strathspey.

If everything goes to plan, we expect the first people to move-in in late 2019. Read our latest news >

Bringing the communities together at play >

Shared playing fields and sporting facilities at a bigger Aviemore Countryside Park, on the opposite side of the River Spey to Aviemore, will connect the two communities. There is also a site here for Aviemore Sports Centre, a community-led project that plans indoor sports facilities.

Aviemore’s sister community

There will be a road and path link from Aviemore to An Camas Mòr via The Old Bridge Inn from the earliest stages- eventually, An Camas Mòr will be easy to walk and cycle to from Aviemore via the Aviemore Countryside Park. A new, regular bus service will link local villages.

Affordable Living >

An Camas Mor is designed to use our natural resources efficently, to enable the whole community, not just individual households to make savings on the cost of a home, living expenses and help save the environment.

The High Street >

This will be the main route from home to Aviemore, the school, the sports centre- it will the centre of employment and enjoyment. Business premises, suitable for retail, restaurants, hotels, offices and professional services will face on to the Street, with space for outdoor seating to spill on to public squares.

Different sorts of home >

The plans include homes for different budgets and households from single starter flats to modest family terraces and bigger multi-generational houses. Homes are designed homes for different life goals- a home and business annex, a flat with a garden workshop or a townhouse and a garden flat to sub-let.
